Between 350 and 400 New Zealand women are diagnosed each year with the "Her2-positive" form of breast cancer at an early stage.

These women, struggling to deal with "the big C", also face a financial dilemma about treatment.

Skip For Life is a charitable organisation formed to assist those in this group who choose to undergo a 12-month course of the drug Herceptin but who, because of it's lack of state funding, must raise between $70,000 to $100,000 themselves.

Skip For Life supports and encourages women, their friends and families working hard to raise funds. Skip For Life has set up a dedicated $20.00 donation line 0900 4 HER 2*.

Numerous individual fund-raising projects up and down the country can come within the umbrella of Skip for Life and be part of a network that shares experience, support and ideas, building a pool of extra funds that can be distributed to women who need treatment now.

Skip For Life has scheduled several events to take place from June 25th through until November 15th, this year. To find out more please call our event information line on 0800 2 SKIP 4, or check the Events page by clicking here.

We encourage women to contact Skip For Life and inform us of their fund-raising intentions and/or progress as well as their need for assistance. This will enable us to put a figure on the magnitude of this situation. Only when we are made aware of all efforts can we identify the number of women fundraising, alert New Zealanders to the extent of the issue, and acknowledge the courage of women fighting this disease.

Skip For Life is a registered charity run by registered nurse Jacqueline Harrison.
